Day Habilitation
The Day Habilitation Program provides programs that enable adult citizens that have a developmental disability to develop more independent lifestyles and maximize their relationships in the community. Services are tailored to individual needs and choices and provided in both group and individual formats. This program is accredited by CARF, an international accrediting body. Each person served has an annual plan that determines the services that are to be provided. The plan is developed with input from the person served, advocates, and staff members supporting the individual. Services may include assistance with or training in activities of daily living such as tranferring and mobility, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, and eating, as well as community integration, budgeting, shopping, volunteer work and continuing education.
All Day Habilitation Program staff members have a high school diploma or its equivalent and have passed background checks with the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Missouri Family Care Registry. Additionally they hold certificates in CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and behavior intervention. Several staff members also hold certificates from the Missouri College of Direct Support. All staff members are also provided with on-the-job and in-service training on such topics as prevention and reporting of abuse, neglect, and misuse of of funds of persons served, positive behavior support, rights of persons served and confidentiality.
Services are provided at the Day Habilitiation Program site and in the community. Participants may also volunteer their time through Meals on Wheels, Harvesters, the Arc Thrift Store, Gladstone Animal Shelter, Hamilton Heights Park, and others that may become available.
Staffing ratios are typically 1 staff member to 6 participants when they are onsite and 1 staff member to 4 participants in the community. Individual supports are provided if identified in the person centered plan as a need.
Funding for the Day Habilitation Program is primarily through contracts with the Missouri Division of Developmental Disabilities and the Home and Community Based Waiver.
The Day Habilitation Program, which is located at 7900 NW 106th Street, Kansas City, MO, is generally open weekdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Transportation to and from the program is provided as part of the service.
